Age Concern England Project

The Rix Centre recently completed a programme of action research, commissioned by Age Concern England as part of their campaign to tackle the social exclusion of older people with dementia who experience lack of mental capacity.

Age Concern England is a federation of over 370 charities concerned with the needs and the interest of the elderly population in the United Kingdom.

The Age Concern England Project aimed to look at the nature and extent of social exclusion of older people who are seen as ‘lacking mental capacity’ and to explore the ways in which this situation can be improved.

Through the use of ‘Multimedia Advocacy’ methods, the views and experiences of older people who have dementia, or have lacked mental capacity, have been solicited and captured.

The project was led by Gosia Nowicka, Researcher for the Rix Centre, Pippa Sweeney, Research assistant, and Andy Minnion, Director of the Rix Centre.
