Lee's story
Getting a job
Lee has a mild learning disability and was a volunteer with his local Learning Disability Partnership Board. He had never had paid work, but was at college studying graphics and the web.
During a Rix Centre workshop on ‘easy-build’ websites, Lee astounded everyone. Before the first training session was half way through, Lee piped up and said, “is this what you mean?” He had created a genuinely accessible web page.
The good news didn’t stop there. When the Rix Centre trainers returned a few months later, they were pleased to find Lee working for the Partnership Board as an information officer. Lee now has realistic ambitions to progress to a job in mainstream web development, graphics and information management.
