Andy Minnion, Director

Andy has been the director of The Rix Centre since it was set up in 2004 and has been responsible for the development of research into multimedia for the benefit of the learning disability at the University of East London since 2001.

Andy has led a series of major research and development programmes from the Rix Centre including Trans-active (with Mencap), ‘Project @pple’ (DTI/ESRC) ‘Beyond the Road Ahead’ (with the Social Care Institute for Excellence) and ‘Click Start (Learning & Skills Council 2009) and In-Folio (JISC Techdis 2010).

Andy has a background in TV production and has taught multimedia production in Universities and community-based projects for more than 25 years, with a particular emphasis on media advocacy for marginalised and excluded communities. He has published a range of articles, books, programmes and websites that reflect this specialist way of working, in direct partnership with disadvantaged people.

Gosia Kwiatkowska, Research Centre Manager

Gosia joined The Rix Centre in 2004 where she assumed responsibility for Multimedia Advocacy Course Development. She now lectures in Multimedia Advocacy for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of East London and provides training to external organisations within social care sector. Gosia has management responsibility for research and teaching provision at the Rix Centre.

She leads on the delivery of the Centre’s research, teaching and learning activities and project manages a range of courses and projects. To find out more about Gosia’s specialist research interests and areas of expertise click Here.

Charlotte Ibik Saward, Project & Communications Coordinator

Charlie joined the Rix Centre in April 2009. Charlie administers the Rix Centre office, coordinates and supports various Rix Centre research projects and manages Centre communications. She has been particularly involved in the development of Click Start and the coordination of the Centre’s European projects. Charlie has a BA Hons in English and United States Literature from the University of Essex and a background in research administration and support.

Ajay Choksi, Technical & Office Assistant

Ajay Choksi joined the Rix Centre Team in 2008. Ajay provides technical assistance and support to students on the Rix Centre’s training courses and workshops. He also covers the Rix Centre reception and provides general office assistance.

Ajay contributes to The Centre’s graphic design work and produced many of the graphics on The Rix Centre website. He is also involved in the production of Easy Read multimedia websites.
